Icy roads was a factor in a fatal crash in Juniata Co. Saturday night. WHTM/ABC27 reported that Juniata Co. Emergency Dispatch announced that one person died in the crash that occurred along Rt. 35 in Fayette Twp. between Thompson Rd. & Musser Rd. The crash happened around 10pm & involved 2 vehicles.
Lewistown State Police released the identity of the victim as 63-y/o Delores Boozel of Port Royal. The crash happened as Boozel’s Chevy Monte Carlo was southbound along Rt. 35 at around 45-mph. Police say road conditions were slippery with freezing rain & that there were no streetlights. As Boozel’s vehicle made a right curve in the road, the vehicle lost traction & began to spin out of control into the opposing lane where it was struck at the 9 o’clock position by an Oldsmobile driven by 53-y/o Brenda Hunter of McAlisterville. The 2 passengers in Boozel’s vehicle, 48-y/o Joseph Burns of Honey Grove & 46-y/o Heather Hockenberry of Port Royal, sustained suspected serious injuries with Hockenberry being taken to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles were disabled in the crash & had to be towed from the scene.
